Yes, you need to cite your Tableau figure and/or data sets. Citing data gives the data producer proper credit, helps your readers get access to the data so they can replicate your results demonstrates that you are an ethical researcher. 

Your data citation should include:

  • Author(s), creator(s) or contributor(s)
  • Date of publication
  • Title of dataset
  • Publisher
  • Identifier (e.g. Handle, ARK, DOI) or URL of source
  • Version, when appropriate
  • Date accessed, when appropriate

Using Reference Management Software?

If you are using Zotero or Mendeley use the journal article reference format type, then in the type field, add dataset. Make sure that all of the essential fields as referenced above are included in your citation. Endnote has a reference type called "dataset" which can be used to cite data, datasets and tableaus.
