You do not need to return an e-book that you downloaded or viewed in your browser like you would a physical book. However, some of our e-books that only allow one person at a time to view the book will sometimes offer you the option to "return" an e-book early as a courtesy to other users.

The number of e-book content providers and types of licenses available is extensive and constantly evolving. E-books from the same publisher may have completely different sets of restrictions.

Many of our e-books are only available for us to purchase with single-user licenses. This means that only one person can access the e-book at a time. While in use, the e-book will show as "checked out" or "in use" to other users. Please note that all Internet Archive and HathiTrust e-books are single-user access.

If you are encountering issues with a specific title, we encourage you to contact us by using the Ask Us feature on the Library’s website.
