No. Pets of any kind—including dogs, cats, birds, or other animals—are not permitted in the library.

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), only trained service dogs that perform specific tasks directly related to a person’s disability are allowed. Emotional support animals, comfort animals, therapy animals, and other pets are not recognized as service animals under the ADA and are therefore not permitted in the library.

As permitted by the Department of Justice, if you bring an animal into the Library building, Library staff may approach you to ask you the following two questions to ascertain if your animal is a service animal:

  • Is the service animal required because of a disability?
  • What work or task has the service animal been trained to perform?

Staff are not allowed to request any documentation for the dog, require that the dog demonstrate its task, or inquire about the nature of the person’s disability. If you are approached by other Library users regarding your approved service animal, please ask for assistance at the Main Services Desk.

For more information about accessibility in the Library, please see the Accessibility page.
