  • are written by professors, researchers, or other experts on a topic
  • are published in peer-reviewed journals OR in books published by university or other academic presses
  • include footnotes, endnotes, and/or bibliographies
  • analyze primary sources or report on original research findings

Scholarly sources are most usually found in scholarly databases or Google Scholar. General search engines like Google do not usually look for scholarly sources.
